Ingredients

2 1/2C all purpose flour

2T sugar

1t baking powder

1t baking soda

1/2t salt

3T butter, room temperature

3/4 - 1C buttermilk

Preparation

Combine all dry ingredients in large bowl. Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. Add buttermilk and mix until dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl. (I just dump a bit under 1C buttermilk in, mix it some with a spoon and then flour my hands and start working it around the bowl til the dough comes together and forms a loose ball.) Shape into a disk about 2-3" high, cut an “X” into the top and place on an oven sheet or baking sheet or baking stone. Bake at 375 for about 30-25 minutes until the top is golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
