Ingredients
1 3# bag Granny Smith apples
3/4 cup sugar
1cup brown sugar, divided
1/2 cup butter, melted
2 Pillsbury pie crust
egg white or milk to brush top crust
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1teaspoon nutmeg or bakers spice
Preparation
Peel, core and slice apples. Add 3/4 cup sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix well. You can add a splash of lemon, optional. Pour melted butter and 1/2 cup brown sugar into the iron pie pan, stir well. Add bottom crust on top of sugar mixture. Add apple pie filling and top pie crust. Brush with whipped egg white or milk. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake @ 350 for 1 hour and 10 minutes.
