Ingredients
1 loaf French bread
1 ½ sticks butter or margarine
1 ½ t. poppy seeds
1 medium onion, sliced paper thin
½ T. dry mustard
½ t. salt
8 oz. Swiss cheese, baby Swiss preferred
Preparation
Score bread diagonally, almost to bottom, in a criss-cross pattern. Sauté onion in butter until transparent, being careful not to burn. Add salt, poppy seeds and mustard and cook another 3 minutes. Stuff 1 x 1 inch slice of cheese (you can use as many as will fit) into bread sections. Drizzle onion mixture over top. Wrap in foil and bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 20 minutes. Unwrap and bake and additional 5 to 10 minutes to crisp. To be served as a âpull-apartâ appetizer.
