Ingredients
2 cups red wine
1 teaspoon of sugar
one onion
1 tablespoon of olive oil
salt
1 lb. ground beef
salt and pepper, to taste
cheddar, mozzarella, swiss, or bleu cheese if desired
hamburger buns
Preparation
- Boil red wine with sugar, reduce to a little less than 1/2 cup
- Thinly slice onion, sauté in olive oil with salt about 40 minutes, till caramelized
- When red wine is reduced and cool, add half of it to ground beef. Mix thoroughly, adding salt and pepper
- Make and grill burgers. They may take a little longer than usual.
- Top with cheese if desired, serve on buns with caramelized onions, and remaining red wine reduction as sauce
