Ingredients
1 large Vidalia or sweet onion, diced
1 (15oz) can tomato sauce
1 (15oz) can diced tomatoes
1 can water (Use an empty tomato can. If you double the recipe start with one can water and add more if needed.)
1 large sweet potato, peeled and diced into 1" chunks
1 large dried chipotle pepper (usually in the produce section)
1 lb ground beef
1 lb ground sausage (if doubling the recipe)
1 ½ tbsp pure cacao powder
½ tsp red pepper flakes
1 tsp cumin
2 tsp fresh sage, minced
1 tsp fresh oregano, minced
2 garlic cloves, minced
salt, to taste
Avocado (optional, for serving)
Preparation
Brown beef and onion. Drain and place in slow cooker with all remaining ingredients. Cook on low all day, 8-10 hours, stirring occasionally. Serve topped with fresh avocado slices.
